MEDICAL INFORMATION
Ostomy patients – are the patients with complicated colon diseases, which are caused by oncologic illnesses (more then 90% of all cases), non-specific ulcerative colitis, Crone disease or other bad pathology. Surgeons, in order to rescue the life of the patients, must exteriorize the open colon end onto the abdominal wall and the artificial opening is to be created, which is called stoma.
As a result of such an operation, the colon contents cannot leave the body in a natural way, and a person fails to control this process. In this situation it is possible to live normally, however it requires special knowledge, getting special skills and application of the special hygienic appliances (ostomy pouches).
Such patients are forced to change their lives, work type or even get a handicap degree. The number of the ostomy patients reaches 100-150 persons per 100 thousands of population, per evaluation of International World Health Organization. The number of ostomy patients in Ukraine reaches 50 thousands persons.
